Turned posts add a classical
and stylish finish to any project. Turned posts are available in
either treated pine or cypress pine. All treated pine turned verandah
posts are kiln dried for maximum stability. (Note: Cypress posts
may be subject to splitting or cracking) Posts are available in
the following dimensions (end Sections):
90x90mm, 115x115mm, 140x140mm. Larger sizes are available to order
if required.
The lengths that are available are: 1.5m, 1.8m, 2.1m, 2.4m, 2.7m,
3.0m and 3.6 meters.
We recommend a minimum end section size of 115x115mm for most structural
applications. As a verandah post is machined to a smaller size than
its nominal end section, 90x90mm posts can be machined down to as
little as 65mm in diameter at the thinnest point. We accept no responsibility
for the correct specification of verandah posts in your application,
the professional advice of a builder or architect should be sought
when specifying turned posts for your project.
Stock patterns are listed below from pattern number V1 through
to V5. Other patterns are available on request. We also provide
a pattern matching service, should you have an existing pattern
that you would like to match, we can re produce the one that you
already have.
Note: This service can only be done accurately of we have the actual
sample of the post and prices for this service are specific to your
requirements. We can work off a drawing, however, no responsibility
will be taken for incorrect patterns in the absence of the actual
post sample. Payment in advance is required for any pattern matching
service and is non refundable. Please allow up to 15 working days
for special orders.
Bull nose rafters are available
in both different lengths and radius configurations. (The radius
refers to the size of the ARC of the rafter). Radius sizes are 300mm
and 400mm depending upon your requirements.
Stock end section sizes for bull nose rafters are 90x45mm, with
larger end sections available to order. (Larger end sections are
commonly required for rafters that span in excess of 1.8m in length).
If you have requirements for longer rafters, please enquire.
Stock lengths for bull nose rafters are 1.5 metres and 1.8 metres
and are available in both “common” and “ Hip/
Valley” types. Longer lengths are available to order.
So, what’s the difference between
“common” rafters and “Hip /Valley rafters”?
The answer to that is length! When installing rafters at 90 degrees
to your building, a common rafter is used, when you are turning
the corner, your rafter will be installed at 45 degrees to your
building, this is what we call the “Hip” or the “valley”
of the construction. As you will want to maintain a constant building
line, the requirement of the Hip or Valley rafter will be longer
than those used perpendicular (or 90 degrees). So, to save you worrying
about measuring up for the longer ones, you simply order a Hip/valley
rafter for these applications.
Caution: All rafters supplied by H
Waterhouse & Son are treated to H3 for outdoor above ground
application. Do not use untreated rafters externally even if they
will be covered over. The timber is still outdoors and will be exposed
to external weather conditions and intermittent damp. Untreated
rafters will not be durable.
